APPEARANCE
Ray is a pretty she-cat. Her mother, after all, was beautiful. Well- both of them were in her eyes. But despite being born to only one of them, little Ray takes more after her non-birth parent! Maybe that's what comes from a calico and a tortoiseshell getting together, huh? She takes after her birth mother's long, soft, silky fur. In texture- but not in color! It's a bit fluffy and feathery in her youth, but as she grows it'll become absolutely luxurious. Her coat will be a bright orange at birth, and will only grow more vibrant as she ages. By the time she reaches adulthood, it will be a violent blend of crimson and ginger She'll definitely look the part of the farm cat she was born as! She has gentle stripes what are more prominent on her forehead, and a white muzzle. When young, she'll be a bit on the smaller side. I wouldn't say 'but that will all change when she gets older!' as... The change isn't incredibly drastic! She just sort of hits her growth spurt late, and will eventually be on the average side. Her long fur might make her look just a bit bigger than she actually is. Her ears and whiskers are both on the large size, and thanks to a good sense of hearing, she's likely to be a fine hunter some day! Her nose is a soft little red, and her eyes are a warm round orange. personality
Boy, how to describe Ray off the top of your head? Well... She's shy. Except for when she's not. She doesn't talk much. Except for when she has things that she wants to say. She's loyal. Unless she doesn't really care. Alright- no. That's too difficult. Lets just do this paragraph style. Raised in a large family- and I mean a large family, Ray is more than a little bit social. She loves to talk. She could go on and on about the things she loves, completely losing track of the time. if you get her started about hunting or running, you'll have to physically shut her up. She loves the adrenaline. The wind in her fur. The taste of anticipation on her tongue. The- there she goes again! Yes, Ray is more than a bit of a chatterbox. When she knows the cat. With strangers.... Its a little different. Having spent most all of her life around cats she's known, Ray doesn't really know how to interact with many cats outside of her family! She doesn't know how to... talk to them. Or hold conversations with them properly. I mean, there are so many different things to talk about with strangers! What if she gets them on a bad day? Or she talks too much to the wrong cat? Ray has been told that she has a tendency to... Go on. And on. And on. So many things that could go wrong! Its... much easier to just stick with cats she knows. And talk their ears off instead. Which makes her coming to the clans... An absolute mystery! But when it comes to close friends, she'll be incredibly affectionate and praising. Physically, emotionally, and verbally. If you hadn't already guessed, Ray is passionate. Boy is she passionate! When she loves, she loves hard. When she hates, she hates hard. She's an all or nothing sort. If she's interested in something, she'll throw her entire being into it and work with all her heart. And if she doesn't care, well... You can say goodbye to the idea of her even doing it. Yeah, Barn life has left her a little spoiled in that regard. She needs reason! Motivation! Drive! These are the basis of her life! She loves hunting, running, fields, and all things golden. Like the farms of her home. So why did she ever leave? .. We'll get to that! But for now, another thing to know about her is that she's loyal. If you hadn't already guessed that, too. Boy, some people are just so good at guessing, huh? She's loyal- when she finds reason to be. She's incredibly loyal to her friends and anybody that she considers her own. She'll defend them in every aspect with her life (even when they don't want her to). Very over affectionate and protective in that area. But that's... Usually about as far as that goes. She's loyal to her ideas. She's loyal to her interests. She's loyal to living the life to the fullest and squeezing every last drop of enjoyment out of it that she can. But being a blind follower? That's not her style. If she sees something wrong, she'll challenge it. Even if she'll be nervous all the time. Ray might be quiet around strangers, but she won't do whatever anybody tells her to do, just because they say so. She has questions. A whole lot of them in fact. That just comes with being a young cat curious to learn everything they can about a new life. But will she grow out of that? Nope! It's important to question everything. She wants to know everything about her interests, and everything about a situation before she dives in headfirst. Not the best trait in a follower, but perhaps a good trait in a warrior.
HISTORY There was Mama, and there was Mum, and there was Gramma Minnie and Grampa Oliver, And aunts Sweetpea and Honeydew and Peachtree and Sunshine, and uncles Wheatie and Huckleberry and Whiskers and Mousechaser, and lots more that visited all the time- but no matter how hard she tried, Ray could never remember their names. Mama just had so many siblings! It seemed like every day on the farm she met a new cousin, aunt, family friend, or long lost great uncle twice removed... Boy oh boy did Ray have a whole lot of family. Oh wait- the most important ones! How could she forget? Her older sister Charlie and her little brother Apple! They were all in the same litter, really, but Charlie loved to boast about how she was the oldest, and Apple always complained about how he was the youngest. And there was Ray, smack dab in the middle. Wait- was she getting ahead of herself? Ray and her siblings were born on a farm. A biiiiiiig farm, all red and tall with plenty of prickly hay and fat mice to chase. Surrounded by wheat and rye and corn for as far as the eye could see. And family! Lots and lots of family. The most important family was the direct one though, right? Okay, so there was Mum. She was the one who nursed them. Everyone else called her Queenie, and she talked lots different from everyone else on the farm. Cuz she was from the city. And she was real important there too! Oh, how Ray loved to listen to her stories about crime and power and adventures abound... Her Mum was the most beautiful cat in the world She had the longest, softest fur, and it was so many different colors. But all pale! She was a delude cowico. Mama looked a lot like her, cept she wasn't the one who nursed them. And she was darker! Mama was the one whose parents Grampa and Gramma were, and she was huge. As big as the barn! With long black fur with lots of orange flecks. And cool scars! Her fur was called turtleshell, and she always smelled like hay. Her name was Pumpkin, but to Ray, she was always just Mama. She was the best at fighting, and had lots of cool scars. And even though she was bigger than Mum, she was younger! But still waaaaay older than Ray and Apple and Charlie. Oh yeah! Them again! Well, Charlie was the oldest. She had long, beautiful delude cowico fur like Mum, and her hazel eyes too. Oh, how jealous Ray was of her fur when she was little. Because you know what? Ray and Apple looked just the same! Except for the eyes! Charlie was the only one who looked really different. But you know what? Apple had hazel eyes too. And that made Ray the only one with her Mama's orange eyes! So there! She loved her siblings, though. No, Ray loved all her family. She loved her Mum's stories and her Mama's teaching times, and she loved her sister's mouse catching skills and how her brother was the best climber ever. She loved how warm and cozy her Gramma and Grampa were (and how they totally helped to hide them when they were in trouble!) and how fun and different all of her aunts and uncles were! Oh, Ray just loved her family. She loved her farm. She loved EVERYTHING! It was great! And of course, there were her friends. There was Bluebell, a pretty gray she-cat who lived down the road and had lots of dog friends. And there was Henry, an old fat gray tom who lived down the OTHER side of the road and only ate the food that Housefolk gave. (Ray tried it once, it was gross!). And then. Of course. Dun da da da! Her best friend in the whole wide world, Wheat! And you know where she lived? Right across the road! She had a barn too, and a whole lot of family. Just like Ray! She was big and strong and had a name like Ray's uncle Wheatie. She was the most important friend. The two of them met when Ray was just two moons old, and Wheat wandered over to her farm. It seems so long ago now that Ray can barely remember. But she was big, and quiet, and had scratches like her Mama. But she was a kit! Like her! And oh boy, I'll tell you what. They became the fastest of friends. Sure, they didn't see eachother every day. Heck, sometimes they would only see eachother once a week across the road! And sometimes Wheat wouldn't say hi to her when Ray called across the street. But they were friends. Trust me! Life was good for a long time. Ray learned so much in her youth. How to avoid the housefolk's machines in the fields, and how to make friends with dogs. She learned about the gangs in the cities, and the horrible savage 'clans' in the forest that slept in the dirt like rats, kept cats as slaves, didn't know how to talk in a civilized manner, and sharpened their teeth on old bones. She learned that even though Wheat lived across the road, she should never go there, because it was dangerous. Ray didn't think that anything could be more dangerous than cats who sharpened their teeth on bones, but she listened to her parents. And besides, that other side of the road would come her way! Because eventually, Wheat came to live with her. And oh boy was that fun! Having a cat who you weren't related to in the barn was so interesting. Even if she was sort of pessemistic. But it was a friend! And Ray was happy. Yeah, Wheat lived there in the barn with them for a while. And things were nice. Mum told her stories to her too, which meant that Ray got to hear all of her favorites all over again! Wheat seemed to really like the ones about the clans. And then one night, when Ray was six moons old, Wheat left. Or, she was going to leave. But friends had to take care of friends. So Ray followed her. After all, the fields could be dangerous at night! But then- Wheat told Ray that she was leaving for real. Like, forever! That she was going to go look for those big scary clans! Well of course Ray tried to talk her out of it. Why would she want to go live with such horrible cats, when they had a family right here? Wheat told her to go back. But Ray... Ray knew that friends had to take care of friends. So she followed her right off into the night, without even the chance to say goodbye to her family. Sometimes, she still regrets that. Life outside of the farm was a lot harsher than Ray had realized. Mum and Mama's stories had been scary sometimes, but Ray had never expected them to be like this. Every... Almost every single cat outside of the farmlands- they wanted to hurt you. And the housefolk weren't kind, and the dogs bit. Over the next two moons, Ray and Wheat got into every sort of trouble imaginable. And slowly, Ray began to realize that perhaps she should not approach every cat as a friend. That perhaps not every cat had the same kindness in their hearts as her family had. That maybe, just maybe, the world wasn't quite as good of a place. Ray learned to be quiet. Ray learned not to approach strangers. Ray hunted, and Wheat fought, and they both walked. They both walked for a long, long time. They were too far away from home to go back now. They passed through a lot of places. Little twoleg towns and forests, and hills higher than Ray had ever dreamed existed. And then, the valley. The most beautiful valley that Ray had ever seen. She can still remember the first view of it that they saw, from way up in those mountains. Wheat was tired of walking. Ray hadn't wanted to see the clans in the first place, but she had promised to go with her friend. To protect her if they ever did meet them. But now, it looked like they wouldn't ever find them. Neither of them wanted to walk anymore, and Ray missed her home. The grasslands, so tall and warm and beautiful, reminded her of them. There, they stayed.
