-Magpiepaw-What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Right? Magpie walked nervously at the border of a tall, arching forest. His small paws barely crunched in the leaflitter that had blown out of the shadowy depths. Ever since he'd been born, he'd heard rumors of two Clans north of his densite. At first his mother never spoke of it, but eventually she gave him a little info: "it's a bunch of cats that hunt for each other." That had been all he needed. He'd only run away this past moon. He had no idea how to live on his own; he was starved, and not even figuratively. He'd been chewing on crow's food for the past moon, digging up the caches of other cats, and eating the eggs of birds that had dropped out of the nest. Not the best existence. But he was free. He'd never realized how wonderful it was to be away from his mother. He didn't have to deal with her claws raking the fur of his side, biting at his siblings, and spitting insults as they struggled to survive under her tyrannical motherhood. Finally he stepped forward apprehensively. The reason he was so nervous was because he could smell the border, sharp and direct: Keep Out. But still, he forced himself to go forward, shaking like a tiny black-and-white leaf. His eyes were wide until the whites showed behind the irises, and his small claws scored the dirt below him. He took a deep breath. Here goes nothing! He bunched up his skinny hind legs and bounded into the woods, forcing himself not to think about what could happen if these particular cats hated outsiders... and what would happen if they didn't take kindly to him. ---------------- Tags:♏aple♢ | OOC:___

It’s okay to get lost every once in a while. Sometimes getting lost is how we find ourselves.
Fields of amber stretched out beneath the sunset sky. The grasses and flowers were dying. The forest was preparing for its Leaf-Bare's sleep. But even with half the foliage fading- there were so many plants out here! How could Specklefoot be sure which ones were right? One... two... three... The young warrior couldn't even count the number of flowers he saw. Oh, but Ravenface was counting on him! Wasn't she? She'd told him to 'get out of her pelt', and to go look for some sort of plant. He... Uh.... That plant had a name, yeah! Of course it did, psh. The muscular tom pushed through the fields of the outer territory, looking around. He just... had to remember it! Um... Feather? No, those came from birds! The tom frowned, wracking his brain. Boy oh boy, he sure wished that he wasn't so darn forgetful sometimes. But he would find it!
Wait a second- Something out of the corner of his vision caught his eye. That definitely wasn't a plant. Specklefoot whipped his head up, just in time to see a cat racing through the fields and into the forest. Black and white- there was only one black and white cat in the clan, wasn't there? Boltfang? And he- he didn't move that fast! Specklefoot blinked. Wait a minute... They were near the border- could that be-
An intruder!
Specklefoot gasped, lichen eyes lighting up. Oh boy oh gosh, his first intruder! Um! Specklefoot gaped, looking around. There was no-one else here- he had to go meet this cat! What if they were attacking? Or- or they wanted to join the clan! "Hey, wait up!" Specklefoot called, dashing after the cat as they disappeared into the massive forest.
"Can you slow down a bit? You're in Cedarclan territory!" Uh, was he saying that right? He should be friendly shouldn't he? Until a cat proved themselves a threat? All thoughts of herbs were forgotten now as he wracked his brain for the nuances of clan life! Oh, the only outsiders he'd met were those Marshclan cats. And Ravenface, cept that had been when he'd just joined too! The cat was so far away, he hadn't even gotten a good glimpse of them yet. Ahhh he hoped they weren't a threat! If they were.... He would fight. But he would really rather not.

-Magpie-What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Right? For a few moments, Magpie didn't even realize that someone was calling out to him. He was entirely blinded by fear, the fear of what he was going to meet, who he was going to see. His small, kittenish paws slapped hard on the ground, throwing up leaf-fall leaves and small clumps of grass. The cool wind whipped across his face, and he could feel it dig into his still-soft fur. Only after a few long moments of bounce-running did he realize there was another cat crying out for him to wait. He slowed down gradually, going from a run, to a trot, and then to a slow walk, and then stillness. For a few seconds he didn't turn around, his heart thrumming deep in his chest, his eyes wide with worry. But then he inhaled slowly and turned around, looking the stranger in the face, drawing up as much courage as he possibly could muster. He flicked his ear and tried to make himself look small, even though he was clearly already tiny: a mixture of youth, shedding in preparation for Leafbare's undercoat, and hunger made him look positively antlike in the face of fully-grown, adult cats. "So this is CedarClan's territory." He mewed, unable to keep his voice from shaking a little. "Are... Are you their leader?" He mewed nervously, eyes wide. ---------------- Tags:♏aple♢ | OOC:___

It’s okay to get lost every once in a while. Sometimes getting lost is how we find ourselves.
Alright, whew. The rustle of undergrowth ahead had stopped. Specklefoot must be catching up. But- yeesh, this cat sounded pretty scared, huh? Were they lost? Specklefoot quirked his muzzle, trying to steady his breathing as the cat finally came into view. "Whew. There you are. Thanks!" he breathed. His name might end with foot- but that didn't mean he was fast! At least, Specklefoot thought that was what clan names meant? Or maybe it just was supposed to mean that he had speckled feet? Oh, he didn't know. And there he was getting sidetracked again.
The tom had to carefully watch his speckled feet as he approached the stranger. Cedarclan's forest was so thick with undergrowth- full of twists and turns and any number of roots that could trip a cat up. And Specklefoot had definitely been tripped more than a few times since joining this clan. In fact, he didn't look back up at the stranger until he was face to face with him!
Or, well, he didn't even have to look back up!
Boy was this cat little! Was he crouching, or was Specklefoot just tall? The warrior tilted his head inquisitively. He couldn't be that old. Maybe little Patchpaw's age! or... The age.. she would have been now. Specklefoot frowned. Like he'd first guessed, his fur was black and white. But it was a bit longer than it had looked far away now that he was up close. He did look a good bit like Boltfang, though! Or maybe Crooked-Eye! After all, his eyes were yellow. Specklefoot smiled.
"Yep, it sure is! You're not from the clan, are ya huh?" he questioned, tilting his head even further. One might mistake him for an owl! "But you know, outside cats aren't s'possed to come on our land! You might get attacked, ya know!" lichen green eyes went wide with emphasis. "You know, I made just the same mistake when I first joined this here clan though. So its okay, and I won't attack you." he smiled again. Were there a senior warrior here, they probably would have swatted Specklefoot on the head and sent him to do apprentice duties for a moon. But there were no senior warriors here, just young Specklefoot and this here stranger!
Leader?! Alright, there were the wide eyes again. Him? LEADER?! Oh boy, could you even imagine such a thing? Specklefoot didn't wanna be no leader. He just wanted to be a good warrior and help his clan. The tom shook his head so hard that his ears might have just flown off. "No way no how! 'M just a warrior! Miss Starlinfur's the one in charge 'round here. What're you doing on our territory, though?"

-Magpiepaw-What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Right? Magpie looked up at Specklefoot, flicking his ears nervously. This cat was far bigger than himself; he could probably cut him to pieces in mere seconds! He was so nervous that he actually started to shake a little, his small paws pressing into the leaflitter. When the cat spoke, he was relieved to find this stranger wasn't nearly as scary as he originally thought. But as he spoke about CedarClan'd border rules, he fluffed up in reignited fear. "I- I thought anyone could join the Clans..." He mewled worriedly, realizing he may have put himself in Harm's way - in Harm's own den! - only to be chased off, or possibly killed... No, he wouldn't be dispaired. "Do you think I could meet... Uh..." He struggled with the odd name of their leader. "Starring Fur?" He squeaked, sure he was saying it wrong somehow. "Ah... Are they nice?" He chirped, eyes wide. Hopefully this strange, mysterious Leader was just as kind as this cat was! ---------------- Tags:♏aple♢ | OOC:___

"Ooooh!" Specklefoot grinned, tail held high. His eyes sparkled like the stars. This cat wanted to join! And right now, when they needed young cats so much? Oh wow, oh wow! He would be bringing a cat back to camp to join... All on his own! Like... a recruiter! Who wouldn't want to join a clan? Oh, this would be just wonderful. Just wonderful! Specklefoot let out a loud, rumbling purr. "Of course you could join! I mean, that'll be up to miss Starlinfur of course," he backtracked, "But- we need all the warriors we cn' get right now! I'm sure you'll be real welcomed. Come on, I'll take you back!" The warrior grinned, waving his tail and padding past the tom. It was a good ways back to camp... But that was alright! All the more time to find out things about this cat! Starlinfur would wanna know stuff, right?
"You bet you could meet her! You gotta to join!" he explained. Was- was she nice? Specklefoot looked back at the black and white tom, eyes wide and dumbfounded. "Oh boy, you just gotta meet her. She must be one a the nicest cats in this whole wide forest!" he exclaimed, eyes lighting up. Boy did Specklefoot look up to her. "She takes care a' the whole clan with Shadowfrost's help, and takes care a' kits too! And she even takes time to talk to everyone, even when she's so busy!" he fawned, a bit of spring in his step. "Why, one time, she even trained with me one on one when I was havin trouble with hunt'n. I'm sure she'll welcome you in right quick!" Oh, Specklefoot couldn't have hoped for a better leader. Boy, how happy would she be that they would have a new warrior, he wondered? Or maybe even a new apprentice! Oh, Specklefoot was just tickled pink. The first real good thing that he'd been able to do for his clan... Or that he was gonna be able to do! Oh, he just had to show them around camp when they got back. A brand new clanmate...
Wait.. A brand new clanmate, and he didn't even know his name! "Say, what're you called?" he questioned suddenly, quirking his head. How silly, he was bringing this cat back home and he hadn't even thought to ask! "My name's Specklefoot."

-Magpie-What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Right? Magpie listened in total awe, flicking his tail excitedly back and forth. He'd never heard of a cat that took care of so many - especially unrelated cats. In fact, it seemed a little counterproductive, in his head - if you were helping other cats, did they have to help you back? Especially other cats' kits? He didn't voice these concerns. "Oh," He mewed, "My name's Magpie." He said softly, growing more confident but no less softspoken. "Specklefoot...? What an odd name!" He peered at the Warrior's paws. "Accurate, though, I suppose." And then he was quiet, for a time, as he thought about something. There was no way he wasn't just imagining the similarity - Specklefoot and Starlingfur both had two part names, right? He reflected on his own name. Magpie. That wasn't really two words, but rather two sounds. Did that mean he would have to tack on something to his own name? He glanced down at his paws, then at his sides, and found nothing remarkable about his appearance, as Specklefoot had. His tail was fluffy and bushy, but really that was it... He lashed his tail grumpily, realizing what little he had in comparison to Specklefoot. "Was your name always Specklefoot?" He asked cautiously after all this had been realized. "Or did Starlinfur... change your name?" If Specklefoot was listening closely, he'd notice Magpie had copied the way he said it. He was still young, and would probably pick up someone's accent, as his own voice matured and formed itself into its adult form in the coming moons. Perhaps he would take a leaf from Specklefoot's book? ---------------- Tags:♏aple♢ | OOC: imagine if Specklefoot ended up as his mentor... awkward cat children galore

It’s okay to get lost every once in a while. Sometimes getting lost is how we find ourselves.
"Magpie, huh?" Specklefoot tilted his head, looking at the tom. He didn't know many bird names, but that was a kind of bird, right? Like Starlingfur and her kits, and miss Swanstrike! Specklefoot smiled. As if he wasn't already. "Well, you'll fit in just great then! Lotsa cats in Cedarclan have bird names, I'll tell ya." Boy, Starlingfur might not even change his name! Just tack a bit on the end of it! Specklefoot nodded, half to himself.
And then, they walked. And walked. They walked for a while, keeping things pretty quiet. Specklefoot felt like he was forgetting something- but what could he have forgotten? He spent a bit of time thinking about that as they made their way back to camp. But if he was bringing a cat back with him like this, whatever else he'd forgotten couldn't have been that important, could it? Oh well! He would just have to think about it another time. Or not. But for now... He had a cat to question!
But it seemed like this time, Magpie was the one with questions! About his name, even! Specklefoot blinked, before shaking his head. "Nope. 'Fore I joined Cedarclan, it was Dots." boy, did that seem like such a long time ago now... But he still remembered his time before the clan, clear as anything. Perhaps clearer, even. Sometimes clan life still felt like a dream to him, even after almost two moons. But most of his life had been spent outside Cedarclan's borders. Memories of his Ma and Pa, and his brother Spots. Specklefoot smiled. And of course, Embry. But... He was here now! And so would Magpie be! "Starlingfur gave me this new name when I joined. Speckle because its uh.. Similar to Dots, I guess, and I have lotsa speckles. And Foot I think because I'm good at climbin? Or maybe just because I have speckled feet." he shrugged with a laugh. He was still learning about clan names! They were so complex, and meant so many different things!
"If you wanna Join Cedarclan, she'll probably give you a new name too. But since a Magpie is a.... Bi..rd? You'll prolly get ta keep the first part!" he offered. Course, he didn't know much, so who knew really! Specklefoot was still learning new things about clan life every day.

-Magpiepaw-What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Right? Magpie trotted after Specklefoot, listening to him talk in silence. He tried to keep himself in silence as a form of respect, but he couldn't help a jittery feeling in his paws as Specklefoot explained. At first he felt his heart drop at the idea of changing his name - it would be so hard to remind himself he had a new name! - but as he was reminded that a Magpie was a bird, he smiled in relief. "So a lot of CedarClanners have bird names?" He meowed curiously, his ears pressed forward. "I guess I will fit in then. I wonder what Starlingfur will name me!" He mewed curiously, swishing his tail curiously. "What was it like when she changed your name? Was it hard to adjust?" He asked. ---------------- Tags:@maple | OOC: IM SO SORRY ABOUT HOW LATE THIS IS ;---;

It’s okay to get lost every once in a while. Sometimes getting lost is how we find ourselves.
He seemed excited! That was good. Specklefoot couldnt help but grin. More new young cats for Cedarclan- that was always a wonderful thing. Especially one so eager! Specklefoot didn't know the most about clan life- he was still learning every day. But he'd be happy to answer any questions that this tom had, and he would try his darndest to give the best answers possible!
"Yeah, they do. Cats like Rookshadow and Starlinfur and Ravenface and Swanstrike and Featherpaw and aaaaalll of Starlinfur's kits." Specklefoot listed methodically, head tilted in thought. "I guess they're just popular! Maybe its cause the trees are so tall, and we eat eggs when we can. But you sure'll fit in!" the tom nodded vigerously, looking back to the tom as they walked. He looked young and strong. Maybe apprentice or warrior aged? He was still getting a threshold on all of the age limits here.
"Maybe you'll be a Magpiepaw, if yer apprentice aged." Specklefoot meowed curiously, looking him over. "Then, you might get a mentor and you'll be able to train with the other apprentices! Or- if you're old enough- you might just be made a warrior like me." there was a bit of pride in his eyes as the swirled tom puffed out his chest. Even though he was still learning every day, he'd been made a warrior upon joining due to his strength and size. He.. wasn't the best warrior, Specklefoot would be the first to admit, but clan life was all about helping eachother and learning. And here he was, learning even more! This time, about helping cats into the clan and interacting with strangers.
But when his name had first been changed... Specklefoot tilted his head. "Well, my name now's kinda like my old one. I used to be Dots, and now I'm Specklefoot. Both of those are spotty. Its kinda weird havin cats call you by a new name at first- but when I first joined, I was just happy that cats were talkin to me!" he smiled serenely. He'd talked to more cats that first day joining Cedarclan than he had in... moons. "I was so happy to be parta somethin... that it didn't really matter, ya know? Everyone is good to eachother here- ain't like they'll call you nothin bad. Takes a min to get used to, but now every time someone calls my new name it feels like...." a pause. "Home, I 'spose."
