Duskblaze looked down at the cats as he sat on the rock. The tips of his ears were brushing the canopy above him. His cheek was still healing, but it didn't look anywhere near as bad as what it had been when he first received the wound. His eyes were serious and narrowed.
He rolled his scarred shoulders as he cleared his throat. "Let all cats old enough to train to fight gather!" he called down.
There was much to talk about. There were names to be given, cats to punish, and they had to discuss what happened with Cedarclan. He snorted in annoyance. None of that should have happened. He had felt bad about the outcome, but there was nothing he could do for the dead apprentice. Well, there was one thing he could do.
"Bear, Silver, Petal, and Fog, step forward, You four have been members of Marshclan for quite a while now and I wish to give you your names. Bear, for your bravery and skill in battle, I wish to name you Bearstorm. You have proven yourself as a strength to the clan. Keep it that way. Silver, for your kindness and calmness, I wish to name you Silverheart. You have proven yourself as a calmness to the clan. Petal, for you intelligence and your... parenting skills, I wish to name you Petalfrost. You have proven yourself to be an... intellectual to the clan. Fog, you are merely a kit, so until you gain your apprenticeship, you will be known as Fogkit. I, Duskblaze, leader of Marshclan, recognize all of you as full members. By the eyes of our warrior ancestors, Starclan, I ask for them to accept you as well and to give you all the strength to help make Marshclan great."
He looked around now. That wasn't the importance of this meeting. He had to get to the point now.
"As many of you know, Scorpionstorm was strong warrior to the clan. A fierce cat whom never had the chance to meet her kits. She is the one who gave me this wound. I have given it some thought and I have decided that *insert Kei's warrior name* did not mean any illness towards me when he killed her. Even so, it is not the warrior code to kill a cat unless it is for his own defense. So, he still must be punished so this does not happen again. Thus, *Kei's warrior name*, you are to be put on apprentice duties for the next moon. You will not be allowed to leave the camp without a warrior to accompany you and you will help take care of Petalfrost if she so needs the help. You will sleep in the apprentices den and wake up beside them as your denmates."
Duskblaze gazed down at the tom for a moment and before anybody could object, he continued on with the meeting.
"Steampaw, you have committed a crime in the eyes of Starclan. Cedarclan was within our borders and as we fought them, you killed one of their own. You-,"
"It was an accident! The cream-,"
"Do you deny that you killed her?"
"No, but I didn't mean to! I was kno-,"
"Accident or not, it has been done. You must be punished. As leader of Marshclan, it is my duty to give you this punishment. Thus, tomorrow, with myself, we are going to go speak with Cedarclan. You will explain to them what happened that day. We cannot risk the threat of war and must try and make amends. Then, after we come back, your training will stop. You will be confined to the camp for a moon unless there is an emergency or I say otherwise. You will sleep alone, in a temporary den, to give you time to think about what you've done. And when the moon is up, I will then decide to see if you are fit enough to start your training once more. And when you begin to train, Turtlefrost will be your new mentor."
Steampaw stared up at him. A temporary den? Alone? Where was it? A new mentor? Why was he being switched to Turtlefrost? What was wrong with Tornpelt?
"You better start building if you wish to have shelter for the night."
Steampaw looked at the ground. He had to build his own den. He knew his father wouldn't help him and he wondered if any other cats blamed him for the death. If so, they probably wouldn't help either. He got to his paws and turned, walking away from the group, head low and ears and tail drooping.
