Duskblaze sat in the leader's den. He had changed the den around, got rid of the old bedding and brought in his own. He had some prey bones neatly in a pile in a corner, having been too busy to move them. It was dim, a bit of sun shining through the entrance. Yet, not enough to really brighten things up. Especially after... well.... after his mate had died.
His green eyes saddened as he thought about her. He should be with his kits in the nursery, but Petal was probably exhausted taking care of some many young cats at the moment. He often went in there to check on them and make sure everything was okay. He could tell Petal was tired, yet she always had a smile on her face and assured him that everything was fine and that he should get back to his leader duties.
Speaking of leader duties, he had something very important to discuss with Snowstorm. He got to his paws and walked outside of his den. "Snowstorm, I need to speak to you. It's an important matter," he called out. He slipped back into his den, not even checking to see if his brother had heard him or was even coming.

Snowstorm was walking back into the camp with some fresh-kill in tow, he had just led a hunting patrol with Owlfur and Turtlefrost as Dusk called his name. He looked to the two cats he had brought with him and shrugged. With a quick trot he dropped his catch off at the pile and jogged back towards the leaders den. As he neared the den he slowed to a walk and then thought about his brother, Scorpionstorm had just died and Duskblaze was probably pretty upset about that, Snowstorm wasn't... much. Needless to say he didn't care much for his brothers mate, but he wasn't sure how he could have told him that, so as he entered the den all he did was smile and raise his tail.
"So you need me bro?"
Snowstorm took one look at his brother and when their eyes met, Snowstorm's heart dropped like a tree in a storm, His eyes faltered for a moment before he regained his composure.
What the hell....

"We need to speak about the future. We need to talk about the next gathering. I propose we only take what is only necessary. Our clan is smaller than theirs. Any cat can tell just by the many different scents that are along the border. I say.. a patrol of two warriors and some apprentices, plus you and I, six to seven cats total. The rest can stay here and guard the camp. I was thinking, You and Cedarpaw, myself and Patchpaw, Turtlefrost and Steampaw, and then Kei." he said.
He looked at his brother seriously now. "Whats wrong?" he asked as he saw the falter. He wondered if something had happened on the hunting patrol.
Then he panicked. What if something had happened to one of his kits? He had lost Scorpionstorm. He couldn't lose any of his kits. It would destroy him. He resisted the urge to run to the nursery to check, and instead waited for his brother to answer him.

Snowstorm's ears perked up as he took a seat and listened. So they were talking about the gathering then, That was something they needed to get planned. But Snowstorm could hardly focus on what his brother was saying, that nagging feeling in his heart had started to grow. And it was starting to bother him, again he visibly started to show his anxiousness. he caught the last part of what he said, The patrol.
"Yeah Dusk, That sounds fine. Though we should guard the nursery as a priority first. Newborn kits are very vulnerable."
Snowstorm's heart finally stopped for a moment as Dusk asked him what was wrong. Snowstorm was just about to tell him when suddenly his heart started to fill with worry, and then anxiousness. Snowstorm's eyes focused on his brother and his brother was reflecting the same feeling he had.
"Will you calm the hell down?! Nothing is wrong, I just... I don't know you're making me nervous..."
Silence filled the den after his small outburst, which in itself shocked Snowstorm. He wasn't prone to that kind of outburst..... in fact that was probably a first. After a moment he relaxed and finally his head started to clear, the silence lifted whatever was going on for the moment, and he felt normal.
"Sorry, Everything's fine dusk, I'm just... Stressed about the new position. I get some weird looks around camp. Not like I care....."

Duskblaze blinked at his brother's reaction. He was quiet for a moment, unsure of how to respond to that. Of course, not too long afterwards, Snowstorm apologized and explained why. Oh, that made sense. Duskblaze was also stressed about his new position. But who wouldn't be? He was a new leader, Snowstorm was a new deputy. They were both new to this with no leadership experience.
"Its alright, Snowstorm. I understand where you're coming from. Just ignore the ones giving you the looks, they'll get used to you as deputy, just like they'll get used to me as leader. They're going to have to if they want to be a clan."
He looked outside of the den, eyes narrowing against the harsh lighting. "IT'll be hard, but we can do it. If they'll only listen and cooperate. We have the potential to become a clan. Some don't seem to be cooperating, though. Its making things difficult."

Snowstorm looked outside with his brother as he spoke. Snowstorm didn't want to listen to the ones who gave him issues, but it just seemed impossible when you had to be in charge of them every day. Duskblaze spoke about the difficulties of others and them not listening to orders.
"You know we can only do so much though. We need to approach the situation with something other than forceful anger. Which, no offense, has been your go to response for a few days now. it's going to get us nowhere, and I can only do so much in the way of damage control. You need to start being smarter about how you hand out your orders.... Oh geeze, Thyme would know what to do...."
Snowstorm frowned and tilted his head. Their old mentor would probably have some weird words of advice that Snowstorm wouldn't understand for moons, or until he grew older than dirt.
"But, we'll figure it out. eventually. But back on topic, Your kits are doing fine, and we have a gathering patrol, now we should consider what to do about setting up patrols. You should take some cats out later today to renew scent markings."

Duskblaze grunted as he listened to his brother's words. He looked over, face still healing from the wound his mate had given him before she was so violently murdered. He frowned, but only half of his face moved to show his expression. His green eyes stared into his brother's blue ones.
"Of course my kits are doing fine. They're from our family. We aren't weak and neither are they. That's why I gave them such strong names, so that they remember that they have strength. So that others know that they are strong warriors of Marshclan,"
He looked at the ground for a moment. "I'll take Patchpaw, Turtlefrost, and Steampaw out. Keep that monster, Kei, away from my kits. If I catch him near the nursery, I'll skin him alive. In the mean time, you should try and calm things down in the clan. That's why you're deputy, to do things I can't." he growled.
Perhaps he shouldn't have become leader. Perhaps he should have stayed deputy and they should have elected a different cat to become leader. He was an angry cat, one who couldn't forgive easily. He wanted to do what was best, but he didn't always have the best judgement. He was trying, though. And that was more than Honeyheart ever did.

Snowstorm didn't flinch as his brother's anger started to flood the room, But he could feel it. The heat was rising under his pelt like someone just stuck the sun under his pelt. Snowstorm blinked for a moment before returning his brothers gaze. Duskblaze was clearly not thinking everything through, Snowstorm could do a lot, but he couldn't do everything.
"Alright Dusk, that sounds fine too me. I'll keep kei away from the kits and I'll do what I can about keeping peace. But Dusk.... What are you going to do about Kei? From the way things have been spoken around camp... Dusk, She took half your face off because you were trying to save your kits, according to Eveningblaze... She probably wasn't going to survive anyway....."
Snowstorm was feeling a wave of sadness flow over him now.
"Dusk, I'm not a medicine cat, I couldn't understand anything that happened in there, but if she was going to die Then Kei probably saved her a whole lot of suffering...."

Duskblaze's fur bristled as he heard that his mate wasn't going to survive. It didn't take but a second to be in his brother's face, half his face curled into a snarl, ears pinned to his head.
"I know she was going to die, Snowstorm! I'm not mouse brained! She was crazed in her last few moments of life. But I wanted her to see the kits. To see our kits. She wanted to see them. Before she died. But he came in and murdered her. He tore her head right from her body. There are other ways to do it. There could have been a better way to do it....,"
He trailed off, taking a few steps away. He looked back outside the den.
"I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him. But he has been a thorn in my side since I became leader. I think I'll talk to Eveningblaze about what I should do," he said, still angry, but a bit more calmly.

Snowstorm's ears flattened as Duskblaze snarled in his face. He wasn't going to retaliate on his brother for acting out of anger towards him, but man was it hard to resist the urge to smack him. Snowstorm's eyes softened a little as Duskblaze moved from his forceful defense of his mate to what he was going to do with Kei. Snowstorm didn't have anything against the tom, He seemed rather capable with a decent head on his shoulders, but that didn't seem to matter much to Dusk, not that it should, they have been aggressively butting heads since Dusk took control of the clan. Well... Dusk was anyway.
"Well, Dusk.... I don't know what you can really do with him, I mean you took your anger out on him. What more do you want? if you kill him you're no better than he is for taking your mate away. Not that I'm saying you would... But... It just isn't the right move here. You could stick him on apprentice duties for a few moons, see if that will straighten him out. Worst thing that happens is he leaves from annoyance."
