The Cedar Clan Medicine Cat sat on the bridge border, trying to ignore the water that floated up to collect like frost on her feathery pelt. Beside her, her companion shifted uncomfortably as well. She looked up at the enormous shecat thoughtfully, whose golden fur had turned a burnt orange as the water easily soaked through the short pelt.
"You did not have to come," she mewed.
"Aye," the beast grumbled, shaking her fur as if that could dislodge the water clinging to it.
"Then why did you?" the Medicine Cat felt compelled to ask. Unlike most of the cats in the clan, she did not actively have anything against the massive feral Warrior, but neither were they overly close.
"Specklefoot," the shecat grunted. "If this lot offs yew, there be no one left ta heel him."
"Ah." Ravenface nodded in understanding, a small smile sneaking onto her lips. Sweetfang might be vicious and almost rabid at times, but she had taken a definite liking to her fellow spotted feline. It was adorable... if such a beast with such huge fangs and such a terrible attitude could be called such.
Something shifted on the marshes and Ravenface straightened, pale blue eyes alert.
"Ravenface?"
A curious calico head popped out of the thin marsh undergrowth. The silver shecat was surprised by how much the cat had grown! Holy Holly! She was almost as tall as a Warrior already.
"Hey, er..." Ravenface struggled for a name. She had seen this apprentice with the Marsh Clan patrol weeks ago, but she had only been concerned with talking to Turtlefrost at the time.
"Patchpaw," the shecat replied with a patient smile, her silver eyes warm.
"Patchpaw," Raven finished gratefully. "You've grown I see."
The apprentice stretched up her head and puffed out her chest, preening slightly under the praise. Her ear flicked, sensing something coming up behind her.
"Hey!" she called back, although Ravenface and Sweetfang could not tell who the new cat was. "The Cedar Clan Medicine Cat is here! Come say hello!"
The shecat turned back to the two visitors, looking Sweetfang over. "I haven't grown nearly as much as this one though. I'm Patchpaw."
"Sweetfang."
"You won't mind if I don't test how 'sweet' your fangs are, will you? I'd rather live to see my Warrior ceremony, if its all the same to you."
The huge golden beast smiled despite herself. Patchpaw looked back to Ravenface, silver eyes curious as her companion came forward. "What brings you two here then?"
"We're here to..." the shecat trailed off as Patchpaw's companion came forward so that they could see...
