Pantherkit & Wolfkit "Are you sure this is okay?"
"Of course it is!"
"What if we get in trouble?"
"You can't get the leader in trouble, stupid! They're the leader!"
"But you're not really-"
"Would you just shut up and STOP MOVING?!"
Woah! She almost fell that time! Gah, stupid Wolfkit! Pantherkit kicked him in the shoulder, which just made the two of them move even more really. Pantherkit was balanced precariously on Wolfkit's back, two hind legs on his shoulders and one on the Highrock. And Wolfkit was just as wobbly as a newborn deer. Any cat who might have seen them would no doubt be wondering, 'What on Earth were those crazy kits doing this time?!'
Well, the answer to that was simple!
Pantherkit and her siblings were old enough to be warriors, and Papa was sleeping, so Pantherkit was having a ceremony. Also, she was gonna be leader now.
Of course, she was having a little bit of trouble getting up on to the big rock to call everyone together....
"I said to STOP MOVING!"
"I can't! You're so heavy!"
"Oh, I have to do EVERYTHING myself!" The tortoiseshell scoffed, pushing up hard from the tom's shoulders. She was trying to jump all the way up, but... That didn't exactly go as planned. Because Wolfkit wasn't half as solid as the ground. So when she tried to push up from the little tom, she just ended up shoving her younger brother into the dust and toppling into a pile on top of him. Wolfkit wheezed under his heavier sibling's weight, squirming for dear life. But Pantherkit had had the wind knocked out of her too, you know! And it was Wolfkit's fault for not holding still in the first place!
"Pantherkit, that really hurt!"
"It only hurt cause you didn't hold still! If you had, I woulda jumped up, and then I could have pulled you up too! Now we gotta find some other way..."
Pantherkit looked around camp, eyes suspicious and searching... What to do, what to do... So many possibilities, so many options! If she was a warrior, she would be able to figure this out! Oh. Wait. She was still sitting on Wolfkit. Oops. Pantherkit rolled off, giving the gray tom a bit more breathing room. Wolfkit exhaled sharply, burying his face in his paws. Yeesh, with the way he breathed, you'd think he'd just run from Marshclan to Cedarclan and back! But speaking of back, they needed to get back to business! How to scale this rock.... Hmm, maybe they could enlist the help of a warrior! Or another kit!

Cedarpaw looked at the kits from across the camp, amusement filled his green eyes. His ears were turned slightly towards Steampaw, though, as the larger apprentice spoke about training and other things. He put a paw over the gray and white tom's mouth and pointed with his tail towards the two kits.
"Lets go save Wolfkit from his sister. She's giving him a hard time."
"That's not unusual, but okay."
The two toms got to their paws and walked over towards the two kits, whom were obviously getting into mischief. By the time the two got over there, the two were were arguing with each other and Pantherkit was looking for something to do. Or someone to help. Cedarpaw wasn't quite sure which.
"What are you two doing?"
"You two are going to get into trouble if your father sees you trying to climb up there. You both could get seriously hurt, you know."

Pantherkit & Wolfkit Oh- there were cats coming this way! Young cats too. Pantherkit waved her paw, urging the two closer. "Steampaw! Cedarpaw! C'mere!" she whispered, far too loudly to actually be a whisper. Wolfkit wheezed beside her. Not much of a friendly greeting to the cats who were going to help them in their ascent to leadership. Rude as always. Oh- here they were! Pantherkit bounced on her paws, urging them farther back between the leader's den and the medicine cat's den. Outta sight, outta mind.. Wolfkit just kinda layed there. Whatever. She had better assistants now. "We need to get onto the big rock. Its important!" Pantherpaw urged, eyes looking around shiftily. Gotta be on the lookout for any SPIES or TRAITORS... But she trusted Cedarpaw and Steampaw. They were young! But- ack! A traitor in their midst! Thinking she was gonna get in trouble... Pantherpaw fluffed her fur out at Cedarpaw, patting her tiny paws on the earth in protest. "No, you're not listening! Its important! They can't get me in trouble, because I'm the leader. Leaders don't get in trouble." she explained, smoothing her fur and holding up her chin. All regal like! "I gotta be leader cause I'm old enough, and dad's old so he has to be an elder." it was perfectly logical. Plus, dad was in the medicine den all the time anyways. And while she loved visiting him and hearing his stories... Being leader while being sick probably stressed him out! So she was helping. Really. "I gotta do a ceremony, to make me leader and Adderkit, Stormkit, and Wolfkit warriors." she looked over at her lazy brother with a frown. "... Well, maybe just Adderkit and Stormkit. Wolfkit isn't being much help. BUT! But but but!" she got excited now, hopping from one set of paws to the other. "If you guys help me on the rock... You can be warriors too! I promise. I'm gonna be a good leader, and make all the good apprentices and kits warriors. Maybe one of you can even be deputy!" she winked. Turtlefrost had taught her that.

Cedarpaw looked down at the tiny kit with amusement. He laid down in front of her and let out a small purr. "You the leader? Well aren't you just the prettiest, little leader there ever was. But I wonder what your daddy would think. To think his daughter betray him and took over the clan just like he did. It seems the pine cone doesn't fall far from the tree."
He heard Steampaw huff with annoyance.
"Let me tell you something, precious. You'll get your chance to become leader like your dad. All good leaders are patient, though. They know when its time for them to become a leader. But first, you have to gain the trust of your clan mates. And while Steampaw and I trust you, I don't think everyone does. Its always good to have the trust of your clan before doing something like this. After all, you don't want to be like your dad. Cats are still questioning him."
"Don't tell her that, Cedarpaw! And stop flirting. Duskblaze will rip you to shreds if he heard you talking about him like this and if he heard you talking to Pantherkit like this. You know he would too." Steampaw said.

Pantherkit & Wolfkit Pantherkit batted her eyelashes at Cedarpaw, a giggle rising from her throat. From a ways away, she heard Wolfkit groan. But Pantherkit ignored that. "You get to be deputy, Cedarpaw!" she decided, puffing out her chest again. Her cheeks were simply aglow. Finally, someone around here who got it! But- oh no, he had it all wrong. Pantherkit shook her head. "No no, dad's hurt. I ain't betrayin nobody. And he never betrayed nobody neither! I'm becoming leader so he's not so stressed out! And because he's old. He won't have so much stuff to worry about if I'm in charge, and I'll be a real good leader too!" she assured the older toms, putting one paw on her chest. She would be the best leader. And she would lead Marshclan forever! "Lotsa my clanmates trust me. I got..." Pantherpaw sat back on her hind legs, counting on her front paws. "You two, and that's too cats. I got daddy, and probably uncle Snowstorm. And Turtlefrost, and Petalfrost, and Robinkit, and Adderkit, and Stormkit, and Fogkit, and Wolfkit! And thats like..." the tortoiseshell tipped her head in thought. One... two... three...... counting was hard. "Like.... half the clan!" Pantherpaw urged, flopping back onto all fours. "And my daddy is real good. I'm gonna be just like him!""Whats flirting?" Wolfkit piped from the back, blue eyes peeking up from the grass. Everyone's eyes had started to change color except for his. they were still all blue like a baby's. But Pantherkit wanted to know too! Leaders had to know everything. "If I'm the leader, nobody can shred anybody cept bad cats. And Cedarpaw isn't bad, I decided. You aren't either Steampaw- so long as you help me get on the rock." she half grinned, half pledged. "Whats flirting though?" she echoed Wolfkit. And why would Cedarpaw get shredded for it? Pantherkit wanted to know! Pantherkit wanted to know!

Cedarpaw chuckled a bit. He heard Steampaw banging his head lightly into the rock beside them and he just rested his tail on the larger tom's shoulder. He shook out his fur and sat up a bit, looking down at the two kits. He looked back at Steampaw, whom was now looking at him, waiting for him to answer.
"Flirting is what happens when you want to make a pretty she-cat, or in Pantherkit's case, a good looking tom, smile. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. I could teach you all how to flirt, if you want me to." he said, sitting up straight and puffing out his chest. As if flirting was something to be proud in.
"No! Cedarpaw, no! You can not teach them how to flirt!"
Oh, come on, Steampaw. Relax. Whats a little harmless flirting?" Cedarpaw replied, shoving Steampaw, whom barely moved, with one of his paws. He looked back down at Wolfkit and Pantherkit.
"Who wants to go first?"

Pantherkit & Wolfkit Wolfkit listned, head on his little grey paws. He scooted a bit closer now that they were talking about something else other than taking over the clan. His chest still felt a little wheezy though. So flirting... was what you did when you wanted to make a pretty she-cat or a good looking tom... smile? He tilted his head. "What does being pretty or good looking have to do with it? Why not make every cat smile?" he asked curiously. "Teach us! Teach us!" Pantherkit urged, jumping from paw to paw. Steampaw didn't want them to learn, though. Why? Was it bad to make cats smile? The grownups always said that it was good. "Why can't we flirt?" "I WANNA FLIRT!"Wolfkit scooted further closer, until he was sitting beside his sister again. Yeah.. his breath was a bit wheezy, but he still wheezed out "Can you please teach us, Cedarpaw?" with big blue eyes. He wanted to make cats smile. "Me! Me! I wanna go first! Teach me Cedarpaw! Teach me!"

Steampaw slapped a paw to his face as he listened to the kits begging Cedarpaw to teach them how to flirt. He shook his head a bit.
"It is good to make everyone smile. But this is different than just smiling. It's supposed to make them feel good so that they flirt back. Its a way to get cats to become closer to one another. Closer than friends," he explained.
"Steampaw, stop ruining the fun. Let the kits learn. After all, one of us could be mentoring them one day. We're just getting them started on learning new things."
Steampaw huffed. Learning. Mentors didn't teach their apprentices how to flirt. That would just be a bit odd.
------
Cedarpaw reached out a paw and dragged Pantherkit to him. He looked up at Steampaw. "Alright, Pantherkit. Tell me what you think of Steampaw here? He can be our nice test subject," he said, smiling at the larger tom. He could see the "I'm going to kill you later" look coming from the gray and white cat in front of him.

Pantherkit & Wolfkit Wolfkit watched the three with big eyes, nestling into the crisp grass. Pantherkit watched- more interactively. A good way to make cats closer... closer than friends? Like family? The she-cat tilted her head. Or maybe... Loyal! Orange eyes got real big and wide. That was the perfect way to gain her clan's loyalty so she could be leader! Oh, Cedarpaw was teaching them the most secret, important technique of them all! And Pantherkit would listen very carefully, and learn the best she could. "I want Cedarpaw to be my mentor. He knows everything." she meowed, voice assured. If he knew such secret, important stuff like this... Stuff that Steampaw didn't even want them to know and Daddy had never told them about... He HAD to! Okay, okay. So it was her turn. Pantherpaw fidgeted as Cedarpaw pulled her closer to him, but moved obediently. He was warm. So she had to say what she thought of Steampaw. Hmmmm.... Wolfkit watched with rapture from the sidelines, but Pantherkit's eyes were all on Steampaw. What did she think of him? Well... what did she know about him. "Steampaw is an apprentice. And he's real big. And has gray fur like Fogkit and Wolfkit, but he's not related to me and Wolfkit, or Fogkit, cause Stagheart is his daddy, and Duskblaze is our daddy, and Fogkit doesn't have one." she recited. "His eyes are purple, which is real weird cause I don't think cats have purple eyes, 'cept Steampaw does." "I think Steampaw's eyes are real pretty, like the sky in morning." Wolfkit chirped from the sidelines. "Shhhh! It's my turn! Um...." Pantherkit tilted her head. "He's strong too, I think. And a nice apprentice, even if he doesn't wanna help us on the rock or teach us to flirt. I think Steampaw is good." she meowed finally with a resolute nod.

Cedarpaw smiled a bit as Pantherkit gave a large descriptive of what she thought of Steampaw. He laughed as Wolfkit jumped in with a comment and Pantherkit snapped at him. "Wolfkit is a natural flirt. He just came out with Steampaw having pretty eyes. Of course, I was going to get him to flirt with someone like Turtlefrost."
He looked back down at Pantherkit and patted her on the back with a paw. "Alright, well you didn't have to describe him to me. What is one thing that attracts you to him. One thing that you found right away that makes you want to talk to him?"
------
Steampaw sat there impatiently, looking at the three smaller cats in front of him. His tail tip flicked back and forth.
"Can we just get this over with? Let me show you how to flirt," he said, getting to his paws. He looked around and spotted Tornpelt not too far away. He moved over towards her, head high. He then slid up to her and lightly brushed his pelt against her scarred one.
"Hey, Tornpelt, I just came over because I noticed you were alone. I figured this was a good opportunity to tell you that you have beautiful eyes. You know, we could go hunting or something. Just us two."

Pantherkit & Wolfkit Wolfkit beamed, and Pantherkit scowled. What was he doing that was better than her? Pantherkit had said lots more things! She described him way better than just his eyes. "Thanks Cedarpaw" Wolfkit smiled. When Cedarpaw patted her on the back, Pantherkit felt a bit better. Uh... Pantherkit narrowed her eyes. Attracts? Like... draws her towards him? Uh... her paws did that. When she walked. But that probably wasn't the answer that Cedarpaw was looking for, because Pantherkit was supposed to be saying something about Steampaw, not herself. What did she like about him? Pantherkit squinted harder. Uh...... "He's big." Pantherkit repeated. And then Steampaw got up. And he left. Pantherkit puffed out her cheeks in a way that was all sorts of offended. Wasn't that better? Wait- he was going over to Tornpelt! She wasn't pretty or good looking, why was he gonna flirt with her? Pantherkit wrinkled her nose. The she-cat was sitting outside of the warriors den and eating, not even paying attention to them. And he just waltzed right up to her and... said that she had pretty eyes. Again. Like Wolfkit. Pantherkit and Wolfkit both watched carefully, gaguing the she-cat's reaction from their hiding place behind the Leader's Rock. Tornpelt looked up at Steampaw. She blinked. She fidgited. And then, she pushed away her prey. "Uh.. I'm busy. I have- plans. I-I think I hear Littleflame calling for me. Why don't you- go train with Patchpaw or- or something?"
She didn't sound too happy about it. She sounded real nervous actually. And then, she was gone. She didn't even take her mouse! She was out of camp quicker than quick. She didn't even say bye! She just left Steampaw sort of standing there. Pantherkit squinted. Again. Hey- just like Steampaw had run away from her! Hmmmmmmmmmm.... She frowned. "Is that how its supposed to work?" "Is flirting just talking about eyes?!"

Cedarpaw laughed loudly. "No, that is not at all how its supposed to work! But sometimes it does happen! Of course, its hard to flirt with Tornpelt. With the way she avoids everyone," he said. He then shook his head at Pantherkit.
"Eyes are just something cats just notice. Here, I'll show you how to flirt personally," he said. He laid down again. Innocent flirting. Nothing serious. She was a kit after all and he wasn't into that sort of thing.
"You have such beautiful fur, Pantherkit. It makes you stand out from all the other she-cats in the clan," he patted her back again in a friendly manner. "And its very soft. You must take very good care of it!"
------
Steampaw came back over, head low and tail even lower. He gave an awkward smile. "That didn't go as planned."
Then he froze as a scent washed over him. He looked up just in time to see Duskblaze staring down at them from the rock. He had apparently jumped up from the other side of it, where none of them could have seen him.
Steampaw gave a nervous laugh before pointing a paw at Cedarpaw and running towards the apprentices den.
------
"Whats going on here?" Duskblaze asked, laying down on the rock and staring down at Cedarpaw, Wolfkit, and Pantherkit.

Pantherkit & Wolfkit So Steampaw wasn't great at it either! Ahahhh! Pantherkit grinned. It was a skill. That had to be learned. "Is that why you can't flirt with cats aren't pretty? Cause it doesn't work?" the she-kit tilted her head. It made sense. Sort of. Not really. But if Cedarpaw said it, it must be true. Because he was a grownup apprentice, and grownup apprentices didn't lie. Okay, okay. Cedarpaw was gonna show her. Pantherkit shifted her position, looking at the tom head on. Her orange eyes, big as they were, were serious. She was trying to sit as still as possible. It was kind of hard what with how excited she was, but she tried! And... she felt her face heat up as the compliments rolled in. Pretty fur...? Different from everyone else...? Pantherkit couldn't help the grin that was growing on her face. How did that get there...? Her heart felt all warm. He said that her fur was nice, and different, and pretty, and soft. And that she took care of it! Pantherkit nodded, ears flat against her head in an uncharacteristic show of shyness. Wow... this really was a powerful skill! She had to learn! "I wash it lots." she meowed, shifting her paws with a smile. Wolfkit looked like he was taking notes. Then Steampaw came back over. He didn't look one bit happy. Kinda sad actually. Hmmmm... so when flirting failed, and you flirted with cats who weren't pretty... it backfired! And made everyone sad! Notes, notes! Oh- wait. That scent.... Pantherkit and Wolfkit looked up in unison. And there Duskblaze was, sitting on top of the big rock. Aw man, now she wouldn't be able to take over! But- they were learning something better now anyways. She had to learn to flirt, so she could make cats loyal before she became leader. Wait- where did Steampaw go? Pantherkit looked past Cedarpaw, just in time to see Steampaw disappearing into the apprentices den. Was he embarassed cause he flirted bad? Oh well! Daddy was here now! Pantherkit looked up at her father, a big grin on her face. "Cedarpaw is teaching us important stuff!" "We're learning how to flirt!"

Cedarpaw looked up at Duskblaze and flinched a bit as he felt Duskblaze's eyes shift from his kits towards Cedarpaw. He gave a small laugh, a nervous laugh at that. He covered both of the kits' mouths with his two front paws and flicked his tail back and forth again.
"Teaching them how to flirt? Who would do that? Not me, that's for sure. They're much too young for that. I'm teaching them the warrior code is all!"
He looked down at both kits, giving them a look that said "Don't say anything else or he'll skin me alive". Even so, he flinched away when Duskblaze jumped down.
------
"You know, I'm not an idiot, Cedarpaw. I heard you speaking to the kits. To my kits. To my daughter. And I'll talk to you about it. Tom to tom. Face to face. Like any good father would."
Duskblaze sat down across from Cedarpaw, wrapping his tail around his legs. He reached forward and pulled his kits closer to him, giving each a lick on the head before looking back up at the apprentice in front of him.
"They're kits, Cedarpaw. I see how you are around others. I see the way you look at she-cats. And I'm telling you now, don't bring my daughters into this. If I catch you trying something like this again, I promise that you'll be cleaning the nests for three moons. And I'm sure you don't want that, do you? Also, tell Steampaw that he needs new friends. You're becoming a bad influence to him."

Pantherkit & Wolfkit When Pantherkit looked up at Cedarpaw she was very, very confused. And it showed plain on her face. But Cedarpaw was teaching them to flirt. They were young, yeah, but it was a super special secret thing that they ha to learn to become good warriors! There was no age limit on wisdom. That was something that Petalfrost said sometimes. Pantherkit didn't know what wisdom meant, but she was pretty sure that it was just a fancy word for 'smarts. And Cedarpaw was teaching them all about smarts! Wait.... The warrior code! Orange eyes grew wide. Was flirting... A secret part of the warrior code? Oh my goodness that was it! Bingo! That was the secret to becoming a good warrior alright- so secret that it was part of the code, in like a secret sect or something. "Cedarpaw is teachin us all about the warrior code. Even the secret codes." Pantherkit defended her friend, sunset eyes full of fire. Her tone was a protest, and she stepped in front of the (much larger) apprentice indignantly. "He's good!"Beside her, Wolfkit nodded. Duskblaze sat in front of Cedarpaw. And he talked to him. He was punishing him! No no, that wasn't right! Cedarpaw was helping! Even if he wasn't helping him up on the rock, he was teaching them important warrior and leader stuff! "Daddy, thats not fair!" she protested, stomping her paws. "Cedarpaw is gonna keep helping me learn stuff, cause he's a good apprentice, and thats what good apprentices do! They help leader kits like me 'an Wolfkit, so we can be leaders and good apprentices too." She wriggled out of her father's grasp, pushing him away with tiny paws. "Cedarpaw's teachin Wolfkit too. And Stormkit isn't even here! So 's not just daughters. Cedarpaw isn't a bad influence. He's real good, and real helpful."There was panic in Wolfkit's eyes as he looked at his sister, shaking his grey head and pressing further back into his father's fur. He was a baby though, and didn't know how to stand up for cats! Not even himself! "He's so good and helpful, that I actually want him to be my mentor." Pantherkit finally declared, scooting away back towards the tabby apprentice and sticking her chin in the air. So there!
