Crooked-eye purred a bit as he noticed Ika's submissive pose. He let his tail run along the small tom's spine, comfortingly. He then looked back at Starlingfur. "He's a bit nervous, Starlingfur. I explained that it would be fine for him to stay, since he can't take care of himself. Cavernpaw and I had been protecting him before we all got separated. He would need a mentor," he explained to the she-cat.
He sat beside the other tom. "He also said that if he was to change his name, he wanted it to be Sandpaw until he completed his training," he added.

When you get to the end of your rope, Tie a knot and hang on. Starlingfur raised a brow as Ika lowered himself in a bow. A bit more than a bow. A grovel? Starlingfur didn't exactly know what to think of that. She was still so used to this leadership position- was this kind of thing normal? Judging by the shaking in the sandy tom's limbs however, she judged that Ika had about as much clue what he was doing as a duck in a snowstorm. She couldn't resist the upwards quirk of her muzzle. "... You can relax, Ika. We're not going to eat you." she chuckled, shaking her head. Was this what the loners here thought of the clans? When she'd first joined, she'd just waltzed up to Shrikestar- Shrikewing, then- and asked him. No doubt cats here had a more... savage, view of what being a warrior was, though.
"So you want to join our clan, then? You don't need to be so tense." she meowed thoughtfully, looking him over. Slim, but with potential. Odd eyes were certainly something to note- one red and one green. That wasn't something that you saw every day. Crooked-Eye mentioned his nervousness, and Starlingfur could certainly tell. She listened as Crooked-Eye explained the situation, nodding occasionally. So Ika didn't know how to hunt or fight particularly well, but was willing to learn. And in these times, that really was what was most important, wasn't it?
"I see." she nodded as Crooked-Eye finished. They did need as many warriors as they could get, and Ika didn't seem like a bad cat. If Crooked-Eye trusted him and he'd beeen living with he and Cavernpaw in the time since the collapse, then despite what he might need to learn he could be a worthwhile addition to the clan. "This is a serious matter. But if you truly wish to join us Ika... Sandpaw... then you would be welcome among our ranks." she meowed, noting his name of choice. "You would have much to learn, do understand. Beyond just fighting and hunting, but also our ways. Would you be willing to do so? To live with us, to swear your loyalty to our cause and cats, no matter what the future may bring?"

Ika glanced to Crooked-eye and gave a small smile of thanks as he spoke for him, he never thought to mention his chosen name. He looked back to the leader, he was able to relax they wouldn't eat him. He tried to relax, trying to get the tension to leave his shoulders, but it did very little despite the effort, he hoped he didn't upset her. Especially with it being the very first thing she asked of him and he was unable to comply. He hoped that it didn't make her change her mind about him. It was really good to know they wouldn't eat him, considering all the cats had more bulk than him due to being fed properly.
He gulped as she asked if he wanted to join the clan, and he gave a weak nod, and once again she told him he didn't need to be so tense. A faint sound escaped him as he tried once again to get himself to relax, to not be 'so tense'. He couldn't get himself to relax, he had started to, but his foot slipped and he almost laid down, so he had pulled his feet more back to underneath him. He really was off the ball here. He wouldn't be surprised if she started to ask if he was loose in the head. He really wasn't, but he was currently malnourished, but he didn't want to state that, he didn't want her to just see him as one big burden...
His head lifted, eyes snapping to her when she said it was a series matter. Oh my, did he do something wrong? But then she went on about joining. His ears twitched more forward so he wouldn't miss her words. Swallowing as he gave a faint nod. "Y-yes, Ma'am." he answered gently. Smiling as some of the tenseness in his shoulders eased when she said he'd be welcome among the ranks. He nodded some though, "I'll work hard to learn quickly as well ma'am." he stated softly, unable to help leaning ever so slightly against Crooked-eye, this was the most he's done in days that wasn't shuffling one paw before the other. He felt exhausted, but he didn't want to seem worthless, especially since he was just told he was welcome. "Of course... you have my loyalty.." long as Crooked-eye was there, he would be there, but he didn't say this, not wanting to upset her in the least.
His eyes slowly left her to look at Crooked-eye, giving a warm smile, before glancing back to her, then around at who of the clan was near by. Or, were they a clan? He wasn't sure what made a clan. But if she was leader, surely it was a clan. So... Now he was part of it, and his name was to be Sandpaw. That was going to take a lot of getting use to, but he would manage. He would do what he had to, to learn to hunt, to fight if needed. Anything to make her proud so he could stay with Crooked-eye.

Crooked-eye purred. "Then welcome home, Sandpaw. I'll introduce you to everyone at some point, or you can do it because it seems I am being called to go hunting," he said, hearing Hollow calling for him. He purred and bowed his head to Starlingfur once. He turned and pressed his nose to Sandpaw's cheek, tail curling and eyes bright.
He then got to his paws and bounded after the small hunting patrol.

When you get to the end of your rope, Tie a knot and hang on. Still so nervous. And ma'am? Starlingfur hadn't even been called that as deputy. Yes, this cat was definitely nervous. His voice wavered as he spoke, and he sounded more like an apprentice than he looked. But Starlingfur nodded as he swore his loyalty. "I'm certain you will. We welcome you to our clan, Sandpaw. We'll have a ceremony for you later, where you'll be assigned a mentor. For now, get to know your new clanmates." she meowed with a small smile. "You can talk to them to learn of our traditions, and I'll give you a briefing later tonight before your official naming. Feel free to ask the senior warriors any questions- most won't bite." amusement glinted in the tabby's eyes as she stood, waving her tail.
"I have to get back to setting up patrols now. But if you have any concerns, feel free to come to me or any cat in camp. Clanmates aren't like loners. We're all family here." Maybe not quite yet, but she resisted adding the last part. Plenty of the cats here didn't trust the others with even the dirt beneath their paws. But it was important to cultivate trust in a stressful environment such as this, if the journey had taught her anything. And that began with inducting new members in warmly.

Ika gave her a nod, "Thank you.." he stated softly, letting her go to her other duties. He remained sitting there, looking around at what there was to see. Cavernpaw was busy with the one tom about kitten sized holes or something, and Crooked-eye had gone out on a hunting party. And Starlingfur had work to do. So no one he knew was around, and it made his nerves skyrocket. He took a slow breath to calm himself. He had a lot to learn about clan's, and more so this clan. Like, who was he able to really trust? Was everyone friendly, or was there someone he'd have to offer himself to to keep from getting knocked around?
He slowly rose to his feet, padding off to a side to stay out of the way, he had no idea what anyone was really doing, never having been part of a clan before this was all very new to him. He knew nothing of what to do, or what not to do for that matter.
The half starved feline padded off to a side, finding some brush to lay down sort of under and next to so he was in the shade. He was tired, and wanted to get some sleep, just hopefully he'd be out of the way here? He laid his head down on one of his legs, unable to get himself to close his eyes as he watched cats moving about. This was very new, very new in deed. Hopefully Crooked-eye of Cavernpaw would return soon and he would have one of them to talk to and help explain things to him.
After all, he didn't want to be the cause of a fight. His stomach gave a slight rumble then, and he just curled up more, that bird was pretty much gone from his stomach now it seemed and having had that bit of food it was more awake. Back to having hunger pains. He just tucked his legs up closer to himself, he needed a full grooming but he was still to tired to do it, but he at least lifted his head back up since he couldn't get himself to fall asleep and started cleaning his legs and shoulders, they were easy enough to reach. Perhaps he would bathe himself fully, and then he wouldn't look so much like a stray...?
