Amber "The darkest nights yield the most luminous dawns." general info
APPEARANCE
Amber, a true lone wanderer, is a rather slow, bulky, and heavy-pawed she-cat. However, what she lacks in speed, she more than makes up for in brute strength as well as observance. Her massive paws can easily knock an opponent to the dirt or break bone, and not many prey can elude her grayish-green eyes. Though her ginger-brown pelt is long and, during leaf-bare, ridiculously thick, Amber has adapted to using the color to her advantage as camouflage against rocks and mud (as the she-cat once discovered while tracking down a particularly elusive vole). The she-cat has a scar that begins on her lower chest and curves up and around to her left front leg (earned from an unfortunate run in with a coyote), though it isn't particularly noticeable. personality
Amber's personality can almost be described as two different entities; when she's happy, she's fine. The she-cat embodies the idea of calm composure and a playful spirit. Her activities may include play fighting, exploring, or generally relaxing in the sun. But when she's angry, beware! Amber silently walks along a warpath when she's upset, and this is when she forgets to think things through and tends to be a bit harsh in her word choice. She may say things to get a reaction out of someone, but she doesn't truly mean it. The she-cat's back muscles tend to be very tense and make her look hunched over, and her eyes may certainly betray her if she says she's fine. Amber also tends to fidget. Whether it's flicking her tail like a metronome or kneading the sand under her paws, she's almost never truly still. In general, Amber is a friendly, fiercely loyal, child-at-heart cat. She's never once doubted herself and holds her head high, though this can sometimes lead to overconfidence errors. Amber definitely knows how to hold her ground, physically and verbally. Though she may tease and poke fun at others, deep down she truly cares and would do anything to defend an ally. The she-cat always looks at life as half full rather than half empty, and can always be counted on to get back up, dust off her shoulders and keep moving forward.
HISTORY Amber was born into a nomadic lifestyle, constantly traveling and never staying in one spot for more than a few moons. Her only companions were her mother, Windrunner, a fast, agile, and graceful she-cat that practically flew when she ran, and her brother, Groundbreaker, who would leap from incredible heights and smash his prey underpaw. The young she-cat was always so impressed with her small family's abilities, not that Amber herself didn't have any. The three of them each excelled in one or two skills in particular. Her brother had learned how to seamlessly leap and land from tall cliffs and use his broad shoulders to absorb the impact from the ground. Her mother could run at unbelievable speeds and turn on a dime simply by counter rotating her tail, hence her name. Amber's know-how of survival leaned more towards her brother's traits, but was unique in it's own way. Her bulky body, although not as husky as Groundbreaker's, was more than capable of taking hits and batting down a threat with a swift strike; her smaller frame allowed her to move just slightly faster than the large tom. Perhaps the most interesting skill Amber possessed was her eyes. The dark green orbs are probably the she-cat's most defining feature and best tool, and her's were the sharpest pair of the trio. Because of this, she tends to rely heavily on her vision for hunting, which can sometimes be a problem. And it was one terrible night. Amber let her vision tunnel on the squirrel she and Groundbreaker were hunting and failed to notice that they were the ones becoming the hunted. As they approached a large cliff at the edge of the trees, the small, furry rodent evaded them by jumping through a shrub and sliding between two tightly wedged rocks. The hunters came skidding to a stop and started to turn around when they heard a low, vicious growl. Suddenly, the scent hit her like a solid stone cliff wall; coyote. Amber quickly lowered herself into a defensive position, her brother following suit. The large mutt launched itself across the air, intending to pin the she-cat, but Groundbreaker had other plans. The tom barreled into it's side just before it landed, effectively stopping the coyote in it's path and letting out a savage hiss. As expected, the enraged animal ignored the warning, and set his sights for him. Amber, still in shock, watched in horror as the two slammed each other, rising and falling and rising again until the beastly thing, growing tired of the predicament, heightened itself one last time and threw it's weight at the tom. Amber tried, she really did, to get to Groundbreaker in time to get him out of the way, but speed was not her advantage, and she watched, time slowing to a crawl, as the two barreled off the edge, her brother releasing a final defiant yell. The she-cat didn't know what to do. The guilt, hurt, and shock of it all twisted her stomach and made her sick. Knowing the terrible fate of her brother and fearing her mother's reaction, Amber ran and vowed to start a new life somewhere else. She would leave her past behind. Now, the ginger she-cat continues to travel alone with the past behind her, looking for a permanent home for herself...
