The little brown kit was sitting.
Just.
Sitting......
Big golden-ringed blue eyes looked back at the Nursery mournfully. She could not go back in yet. She had to sit. Flickerkit flopped down on her belly and put her head in her paws. She was so bored! She could not even go exploring around the camp because no one was with her! Most of the other kits were in trouble and had to stay in their nests (or, at least, what remained of them) because they broke the den and went exploring the camp without permission. Flickerkit had stayed behind so she wasn't in trouble, but she might as well be! Her Mama was angry at them and was trying to patch the hole with the other queens. She had told Flickerkit to just go play outside to give them more space. But if she went too far she would be in trouble too!
Maybe that wouldn't be so bad, the little shecat grumbled to herself, at least then I wouldn't be alone.
But Flickerkit was a good kit. A tad rambunctious and overly curious about practically everything, but good all the same. She did not want to get in trouble it was... Flickerkit tried to remember the word Mistlekit would use... it was the principle. Which meant even if it seemed better, Flickerkit still thought it was a bad idea. So here she was. Sitting outside the den, well, laying now, with her head in her paws. Bored.
She flicked her tail to kick up a bit of dust but not even the swirls could interest the usually jovial kit. When you had 3 brothers and sisters, and 8 other denmates too (counting the queens), you got used to a lot of noise and a lot of movement all of the time. Being out here alone...
Flickerkit groaned and rolled over on her back to look up at the sky. She was bored! She wanted to do something! She wanted to explore! She wanted to go see the Leader's Den again! Or look at the inside of the Apprentice's Den like Rosekit said he did once. Or see the really big nests that her mama told her were in the Warrior's Den. She idly wondered if maybe she could get one of the Warriors to play with her, but discarded the idea with a desolate sigh. Her Mama said 'go outside'. Not 'go explore'. That might mean she had a run of the camp -or it might mean she was only supposed to stay right outside of the Nursery. Given the mood her Mama was in currently with all the other kits, Flickerkit did not want to chance it. She batted aimlessly at a passing cloud high up in the sky, not really even trying to catch it.
She wished she had a friend to play with. Someone who was not in trouble and could take her exploring around the camp.
Just.
