The morning was coming. Shadowfrost's eyes opened to the morning light starting to shine through the trees and into his eyes. Shadowfrost had fallen asleep near the camp entrance last night so he would be ready to get a move on next morning. Starlingfur had assigned him his first mission as Cederclan deputy, and even though he wouldn't admit it, he was just the tiniest bit excited. She was trusting him to lead a small patrol to the other new clan to gather information about the forthcoming gathering, and weather their would be another clan to meet there. Quietly Shadow stretched and then yawned. If Birchtail or Rookshadow didn't show up soon, they'd be late. And what of Rookshadow's apprentice? He had informed them they would be leaving as soon as sunhigh was upon them.
That in an of itself was a new experience, Cederclan had taken to carrying out activities by night. Tonight...errr... today.... Was the first day he had seen the sun rise in quite some time. Hopefully they wouldn't run into any trouble, but this was a new adventure, and a new adventure brought new experiences. Even if they were technically old experiences.

Rookshadow left the warriors den, Birchtail right behind her. She hissed at him as he attempted to say goodbye to Starlingfur and the kits. She didn't want him to wake the tired family. He could see them when they got back anyways. And being the good nephew he was, he didn't argue with her as the two warriors went to sit beside their deputy, thunders- Shadowfrost.
"This will be a nice little trip. Hopefully Honeyheart will see that Starlingfur sent some of the less aggressive cats, not a battle patrol. We don't need any wounds so early into reforming ourselves," she said to thw two toms.
"Starlingfur also sent strong warriors, in case they did think we were a battle patrol. If they attack, all of us, excluding the apprentice, are experienced enough to handle it until we can explain why we are there," Birchtail replied back.
"Well, lets get going, then," the apprentice said as she wondered up. Her calico fur was neatly groomed and it was clear she would have grown up to be pretty, if not for the gaping socket where one of her eyes should be.

Shadowfrost nodded to each of the cats in greeting. When they commented on then choice of patrol he made, (under the assumption it was Starlingfur) His confidence was reinforced enough to get a move on with this mission. He was fully aware that Starlingfur had final say, but she didn't object, so by all intents. This was his choice. With a turn of his tail he set off through the camp exit, preparing himself for the long journey that lay ahead. He should start by filling them in on what needs to be done.
"Alright, Listen close and listen good. We only have one shot to do this right so we need too do it perfect. This isn't just a patrol to check in on the others. We are to observe everything. Who's in charge, Where are their dens, Where is the nursery, keep a mental note of any warriors you recognize. keep a mental note of any you don't. If you don't recognize them, get a name and remember it. We're not just going for a check up as I said. This is all about gathering intelligence."
Shadowfrost was a cat who never looked at war as a violent problem, and more as a last solution. But even though he wasn't eager to jump into a fight with the next cat to come his way, he was very keen on knowing how to do do, and do so effectively without a problem. This was Cederclan's chance to get that kind of edge.
"I'll be honest though, I don't want to have to use this information against them if we can avoid it. We need to be civil and respectful to them. They are just like us, and no one wants another war."
No one could survive another war...

Rookshadow nodded. "It's useful information to have, although, I'm sure the other clan isn't stupid. They might do the same with us," she said, fluffy tail waving behind her as she walked slightly to the side, yet still behind Shadowfrost. She looked back a bit as she heard Patchpaw say something also.
"What if they don't let us in their camp?"
"We'll get to that when the time comes. I'm sure that either Scorpion or Duskblaze are the deputy. Knowing those two, we won't get near the camp. And if Honeyheart is on a patrol, we have no excuse to get to the camp either, as she'll be right there."
"Unless we say we need Eveningblaze. We do need him, as it seems Rosekit's wounds are getting worse by the day. We can go to the camp and while Patchpaw is helping that grumpy tom, the three of us can talk to the others. After all, we're known to be friendly with the other clans."
Rookshadow nodded in agreement with Birchtail.

Shadowfrost nodded as Rookshadow spoke. Suffice to say it wasn't going to be easy. But they would have to figure something out. Maybe Birchtail was on to something.
"It's not a bad idea. We'll run with it and see what sticks, in the mean time, however. We have a long ways to go. So we may as well get comfortable."
Shadowfrost made his way through the forest with his patrol by his side. How would they approach the other cats? He began to wonder if it would be a good idea to let them know that they were there. If they hid, it would look like an assault. If they didn't hide, they could still be mistaken for an attack and get ambushed. He shook his head.
"We just have to wing it. Their is no protocol for this kind of meeting, Someone should make one. Things would be so much easier..."

Rookshadow purred a bit. "We've never had a protocol, as long as I've lived. As you said, we'll wing it, Shadowfrost," she mewed, looking around the forest. Her golden eye watched the leaves. They were turning orange, red, and yellow. Some were already brown and falling as the wind blew them off of the tree limbs. She let out a purr again.
"Nothing is easy in life. If we get attacked, then we fight back. Simple. I'll shred them alive. Rookshadow and I have been practicing out fighting moves recently," Patchpaw mewed, puffing out her chest. She blinked her one eye, tail lashing back and forth as if she was waiting for the other clan to attack them.
Birchtail listened to them talk, ears perked as he looked atound them for any danger. So far so good. No badgers or foxes or even other cats. This should go smoothly.

Shadowfrost dipped his head and sniffed the ground as he walked. His stomach was rumbling just lightly enough to be heard, he had skipped out on breakfast. Pity...
"We'll deal with whatever comes our way as warriors do and we'll deal with it without violence."
Shadowfrost looked over to Birchtail and then offered a small smile.
"By the way, I haven't given you my congratulations yet on your kits Birchtail, They'll grow up to be fine warriors I'm sure."
Shadowfrost had decided to start at least trying to get to know other cats in the clan, after his incident with Swanstrike he had decided it better of himself if he took on a more sociable position in the clan. His position as deputy required him to have at least a friendly position with every cat in the clan, and while Shadowfrost had despised the very thought of having any sort of friendship... It didn't hurt to say he at least tried when it failed....

Birchtail's ears perked and he purred brightly. Perhaps Shadowfrost shouldn't have said that, because now all he could think about were his kits.
"Oh, thank you, Shadowfrost! Have you seen them yet? They're so adorable. I have four, you know. Two toms and two she-cats, the perfect family. Shrikekit, Hawk-kit, Flickerkit, and Ternkit. All of them so precious and innocent. They'll make strong warriors. Or even a medicine cat if one wished! I'm so proud of them and to be their father. They can already say a few words. They learn so quickly. But they're smart! They get that from me, but don't tell Starlingfur I said that," he said, joking at the last part.
Then, suddenly, just like that, claws were digging into his shoulders and flank as he was pounced on. He fell over, howling in shock and pain. He caught a glimpse of brown tabby fur and green eyes. Had they really crossed the border already?
------
Duskblaze rolled with Birchtail and flung the older tom straight towards the apprentice as she came over to help. He watched as the two collided and got to his paws. "You shouldn't have come onto Marshclan's territory! Has Cedarclan already forgotten where the boundaries are?" he snarled.
------
Patchpaw growled loudly as she wiggled out from under Birchtail. She leaped at Duskblaze, but was tackled by a large gray and white tom. She glared up at him and his purple eyes. She was pinned to the ground and hissed in his face, which only caused him to hiss back.

Shadowfrost's eyes widened for only a second when Birchtail flew into Patchpaw. He flipped and launched for Duskblaze with his claws bared, right before he collided with the Tom however a smaller white cat came over Duskblaze and piled into Shadowfrost pinning him to the ground. Shadowfrost snarled and latched his teeth onto the leg of the white cat, feeling the blood drain in his mouth.
---
Snowstorm howled as Shadowfrost bit into his leg. He pulled his paw up as Shadowfrost let go and squirmed out of his Grasp, Turning around and jumping onto Snowstorm as they rolled onto the ground, Snowstorm latched onto Shadowfrost's shoulder and started raking his claws along his stomach as Shadowfrost landed on top. Snowstorm kicked his legs out and launched Shadowfrost off of him, Shadowfrost landed a short distance away and growled.
"You Shouldn't have started a fight you can't finish!"
Snowstorm looked down at his leg, now stained red from the blood that dripped out of his wound. He needed to think of something fast, Shadowfrost was running towards him. Snowstorm looked back up at Shadowfrost and quickly swung his paw up at Shadowfrost, blood flew from his wound into Shadowfrost's eyes, Shadowfrost shut his eyes as the blood made contact and he tripped and stumbled for a moment, giving Snowstorm enough time to move out of the way and over to his brother.

Birchtail got back to his paws and hissed at Duskblaze now. "You don't even know what we've came for!" he snarled at the tom. He only got a hiss in return, everyone's fur bristling. He unsheathed his claws and ran at the younger cat. The two toms collided as they attacked one another.
He could hear Rookshadow yelling at everyone to stop and he caught a blur of Steampaw and Patchpaw rolling around as well. He was suddenly pushed off and he looked over at the apprentices. He was too big to be fighting Patchpaw. He was muscle and she had barely begun to train. Before he could move, Duskblaze had him pinned to the ground and was raking his stomach. He howled in pain.
------
Rookshadow gave up on trying to stop the cats. She ran over and leaped onto Steampaw's shoulders, trying to use her force to tip him over and off of her apprentice. As she did so, though, she heard a tearing sound and then gurgling. She pinned Steampaw to the ground and looked at him to see.. she was going to be sick.
Her eye turned and looked over at her apprentice. Patchpaw laid on the ground, flailing in pain as the blood poured like a waterfall out of her throat. After a moment, though, she grew still. The apprentice laid there, eye staring blankly at Rookshadow.
"PATCHPAW," she screamed.

Shadowfrost stopped and wiped the blood from his eyes, he was about to turn and launch onto that white little bastard when Rookshadow's scream echoed through his ears. He ran over to see Rookshadow to find Patchpaw suffering in a pool of blood, when she finally stopped Shadowfrost's heart sank. He had failed, and now Patchpaw was gone. Shadowfrost wasn't a cat shy to the idea of death. No it haunted him every where he went, but this was his fault. He couldn't have stopped the fight, no he jumped right in. But they were under attack... Shadowfrost blinked for a moment before turning to look at Rookshadow.
"I'm sorry..."
It was all he could manage to say.
---
Snowstorm stopped at the screaming shecat and looked over to see the apprentice laying dead on the ground. His eyes narrowed slightly and he hissed quietly to himself. This wasn't suppose to happen, they were just suppose to chase them off. Snowstorm looked at his brother and had a regretful look plastered on his face. Not one normal cats would see, but one Dusk could see, and it was on full display.
"What do we do Dusk...."

Duskblaze and Birchtail stopped fighting at the scream. The brown tabby tom looked at the dead apprentice and then looked over at Snowstorm, his heart dropping for a second. He blinked and shook his head. "Get off our terrtiory. And take the dead apprentice with you. Don't come back either," he snarled at Birchtail.
He walked over and shoved Rookshadow off of Steampaw, letting the tom get back to his paws.
------
Rookshadow just stared. She nodded once to Shadowfrost, but didn't say anything. It wasn't hard to push her, as she basically just stumbled off when Duskblaze shoved her. She looked over at Steampaw, whom look just as shocked and sad as well. She shook her head once before she realized Birchtail had already gotten Patchpaw by her scruff.
It was going to be a long walk back.

Shadowfrost snarled as Duskblaze shoved him, he quickly picked up his pace and followed after her. This was probably the most depressing day he had seen in a long time. His tail was dragging along the ground as he followed behind the group.
---
Snowstorm eyed the group as they were leaving, not in anger but in sadness. This was not a good day for anyone, He looked over at Steampaw and then at his Brother. He couldn't manage to think of anything to say that would benefit the situation, so he just silently looked back at the group of cats as they disappeared into the forest. After a moment he looked over at Steampaw.
"Their is a time and a place for everything, now was not that time."
With that Snowstorm stood up and turned to head back to camp.
"This does happen though, we must carry on."
And with that he started walking back to camp.
